FREEDOM BLAST 2025: Ten Years Hosting, and It Still Hits Me Right in the Feels

I just wrapped my 10th Freedom Blast, and Greer showed out. On June 28, 2025—the 16th annual—we packed Greer City Park, shifted the setup for downtown construction, and launched fireworks from the Jason Street garage with a killer view. The night’s spine was the MSG Preston B. Johnson Veterans Walk, honoring every branch, even Space Force, with the 20th Force Support Squadron adding that official charge. We cheered through the Texas Roadhouse Rib-Eating Contest, danced to The Back 9 Band’s Motown-to-Mars set, and paused for a powerful tribute to Army Sgt. R. Rodgers as the Fast Track skydiving team dropped in. Alicia Taylor of the DAR presented Freedom Lanterns to Army veteran Charlie Tapp and Navy Reservist Oni Maxey, and Mayor Rick Danner welcomed the crowd in classic Greer style. Ten years in, it’s still the same recipe: freedom, community, fireworks - repeat.
